How has my research fed into my work?

Research has been fundamental in this primer work, aptly named the observer most of the work here was drawn on location. The research I did here visually fed into elements of my final piece and my knowledge of the location was fundamental. Research of the rich history of chinatown in London was also very important and that reading also informed my final work

What research methods have been useful and/or enjoyable? What are good ways of researching for me?

Although I loved the process of drawing on location the practicalities of it were a little tricky, particularly in winter as I was outside for most of the time I spent in chinatown I got cold after standing outside for three hours. I also found it really difficult as chinatown is usually somewhere I would avoid because of how busy it is, let alone stay for so long. I also felt pressured by the other people around me when drawing and felt much less likely to take any creative risks for fear of it all going wrong and other people being able to see. Not only was it crowded, it was also hard to find a secluded spot to draw for a while where I could sit down at a table. but I loved the outcomes and think a hybrid method is probably the most suitable. I definitely took pictures I wanted to draw from that I would not have just found on the internet.

What have I learned about how I like to work?

I think I do quite like the comfort of a comfy chair and desk somewhere warm completely alone. I feel very uncomfortable feeling eyes on me as I work and feeling like what I'm drawing isnt up to scratch. But again this is something I think I need to continue to challenge. I think I would rather go somewhere in nature with nowhere near as many people next time.
