How has my research fed into my work?

all of the work I made in the visual workshop is directly from the observation that I did on location in chinatown, either from the drawings I did while there or the ephemera I collected or from memory. its really nice to have developed all that into one curation of my journey in china town.

What problems have I encountered, what ideas do I have for solutions?

I found it really difficult to do this as I felt like I didn't have enough drawings, the addition of the thumbnail sketches helped this and I think the restriction was also useful as I had to place everything carefully and I couldn't afford not to use every cut-out that I had. this also helped to minimise the colour palette which I think in the end was in my favour. limited drawings also encouraged me to used the same drawing multiple times by using the gate twice and the lion twice. I also felt like though I had less drawings they were of a decent quality which definitely benefitted the end result.

How has feedback affected my work? How has it been useful or not?

I think I definitely benefitted from encouragement from the tutors during this collage because I was worried they would think I didn't have enough material to work with but they were positive and I had great feedback when I had finished and my collage was displayed on the wall.

What is it about my ideas that I want to explore?

I really enjoyed the process of drawing thumbnail sketches from memory and loved the outcome, I'd definitely like to use this in the future. I think it's really interesting how I've remembered and imagined things that are accurate but slightly different to the photographs I've taken that I can compare the drawings to afterwards. I also liked playing with the dynamic of making my collage 3D by layering drawings so I could see myself developing this in a future project
